Two teams of the fire brigade and the Civil Defense Service spent more than an hour Friday trying to save a four-month old kitten in the city of Shumen in northeast Bulgaria . The kitten named Moni had climbed about 15 meters high on a tree on the Oborishte Square after it was chased by an older cat. 120 soldiers and 30 officers from the Fifth Bulgarian Security Regiment were welcomed Tuesday in the Bulgarian city of Shumen after completing their six-month mission in Iraq. The rangers were greeted at a special ceremony at the Shumen Department of the National Military University "Vasil Levski". The 150 veterans were in charge of guarding the Ashraf Refugee Camp in southeast Iraq. 10 of them were awarded medals of honor by the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of the Army.

News: Emergency Hotline Starts Operating in Bulgaria

The 112 emergency hotline will be launched in Bulgaria at long last. As of July 3, the line will receive emergency calls from the citizens in 10 districts. At the same time two call centers will start functioning in the capital and in Russe, which will cover Greater Sofia, Pernik, Kyustendil, Blagoevgrad, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Silistra and Razgrad. Till the end of the year the free line should be available for the rest of the towns in Bulgaria, Minister of State Policy for Disasters and Accidents informed yesterday. Meanwhile in the towns of Shumen and Sliven a temporary information center already operates. It receives calls about emergency situations and dispatches them to Civil Protection agency. To make a call people have to dial the respective area code and then 112.
