$35 000 prize on marathon in Kavarna

The state marathon championship will take place on May 9, 2009 in town of Kavarna. The route has been approved already and probably it will be licensed by the International federation in the next year. The winners (men and women) will be a prized $35 000.

"This is comparable with the biggest competitions in the marathon and may be it is the best prize fund in this part of the world," Vice President of the Federation Asen Hristov commented.

Kavarna municipality will take care for any costs for the contest. A budget of 100 thousand leva is already provided - 25 thousands from the municipality sources and the rest from sponsors who have already assured. The start of the race will be given from the legendary rock star Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple) who plans to visit Kavarna in this period.

"35 thousand dollars is prize, which can be seen only on the largest marathons in the world.", said the president of Bulgarian Athletics - Dobromir Karamarinov.
