Scottish-based oil and gas company Melrose Resources has landed a concession contract to extract natural gas from the Kaliakra field, the Bulgarian Council of Ministers announced on Wednesday. The company has already won concession contracts for the Galata ana Kavarna fields. The new field occupies 19 sq km (7.336 sq miles) and is located in the continental shelf. Japanese firm Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in June got 120,000 carbon credits from its 35 MW wind farm near Kaliakra Cape on Bulgaria`s northern Black Sea coast . The announcement was made yesterday by Shinji Ueno, board chairman of Bulgarian-Japanese company Kaliakra Wind Power, which owns the power plant. Four new temperature records have been registered in Bulgaria, the National Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences announced. 17,2°C was measured in the coastal city of Burgas , 14,6°C - on the cape of Emine (2km from Emona village ), 13°C - on the cape of Kaliakra , and 14,4°C - in the northern city of Silistra . These are not the final temperatures; higher ones are expected, says NIMH. Weather forecasters say Sunday is the last day of the warm wave.

Melrose Resources PLC, an Edinburgh-based oil and gas exploration, development and production company with interests in Bulgaria, announced it would invest 11.2 million GBP to go on with exploration in Bulgaria, according to the on-line business.scotsman.com. The gas field close to Kaliakra cape will provide supplies in the beginning of the autumn, executive director of Agropolychim Hristo Petrov told Focus – Varna Radio. According to an initial estimate the field is large, probably 2,4 billion cubic meters.
