Veliko Tarnovo - the capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire - has joined the league of the historical centers. Mayor of Japanese city Kyoto, Daisaku Kadokawa, phoned mayor of Tarnovo Rumen Rashev to tell him the news.

Seventy cities and towns from all over the world, among which Rome, Paris, Vienna, Amsterdam, Florence, etc. are members of the world league. A delegation from the town of Veliko Turnovo will attend the 12th conference of the historical centers, which will be held in the ancient city of Nara in Japan, announced eminent archaeologist Prof. Nikolay Ovcharov.

Prof. Ovcharov, along with Bulgaria`s President Georgy Parvanov and sumo wrestler Kaloyan Mahlyanov-Kotooshu have lobbied for Veliko Tarnovo`s successful candidature.
