Analysis on health-demographic condition of population in Veliko Tarnovo district

Tendency on unfavorably deceasing of the population has been kept in Veliko Tarnovo district, director of the Regional Healthcare Center Dr Albena Lambeva reported Friday during the annual analyses of the health-demographic condition of the population in the district, FOCUS Radio-Veliko Tarnovo informed.
According to the last official data the total number of the population as of December 31, 2008 is 277 520 people, which is about 3.6% of the total number of the population in the country. The number of the population has decreased with 0.45% compared to 2007.
187 539 people live in the towns or 67.6% of the whole population, including 52.1% women.
The Regional Healthcare Center reported age structure is characterized by permanent tendency of getting on in years.
Percentage of the population between 0 and 17 years old in 2008 is one of the lowest in Bulgaria-14.7% with 16.7% middle average in the country.
People over 60 are 25.7%. Birth rate is also very low-2 420 in 2008. 1 247 of them are boys and 1 173-girls.
