The project for an industrial zone in the city of Pleven, Northern Bulgaria, has been postponed indefinitely due to the suspension of Phare funding, said a municipal official. The city was expecting to get some 6 mln levs in aid under the program to finance the necessary preparations and monitoring. With the Phare option now off the table, the municipality will have to develop the 12.7 ha site on its own in the face of rising area demand for industrial space. |

| The Black Sea Technology Company (BSTC) , owned by Italy`s AMGA Azienda Multiservizi S.p.A., said it will begin the installation of a gas network in the town of Dryanovo in early `09. Administrative buildings and production facilities will switch to natural gas first to be followed by household customers later. BSTC has a gas distribution licence for the Mizia and Dobrudja regions centered around the cities of Pleven and Dobrich, respectively. |

Police have arrested a serial rapist in the Bulgarian town of Pleven, authorities reported Saturday. The 38-year-old Ilian Ivanov, who was arrested during an investigation of a case with a 13-year-old girl raped in 2003, has confessed to 10 rapes, police said. The rapist used to stalk victims in dark streets and threaten them with a knife. If pronounced guilty, Ivanov faces 15 to 20 years in jail. |

A three-member Romanian family died on spot after the minivan they were riding in veered into the opposite lane and crashed against a bus on the road between Bulgaria`s cities of Pleven and Sofia early on Monday. As a result of the hit, the vehicle flew out of the road and bumped against a nearby tree. A one-year-old Romanian girl and her parents were killed and the driver of the bus, aged 50, suffered light injuries. Fortunately, none of the passengers in the bus was hurt. The reasons for the accident are still under investigation. |

| Raiffeisenbank has reportedly cut the ribbon to 9 offices in April, thus raising the number of its locations to 166 branches countrywide.
