Business: US Oil Company Claim There`s Gas beneath Bulgarian Village

The US oil company Direct Petroleum Exploration Inc. (DPE) have discovered a gas deposit under the Bulgarian town of Varshets, the Russian Prime-Tass agency broke the news. Tests have shown the presence of promising quantities of gas and natural gas condensate. Apart from Bulgaria, DPE have subsidiaries in Morocco and Russia. More than a year ago they started drilling for gas near the Pleven District village of Deventsi after discovering a large deposit.

Over 60,000 companies in Bulgaria are run by women, 63 per cent of whom have higher education, Deputy Economy and Energy Minister Anna Yaneva told a news conference on Wednesday, BTA reported. However, there are more companies run by men - the ratio is two to one, she said. Yaneva gave highlights of a forthcoming first international forum for women`s entrepreneurship. Politics: Pleven heating co awarded eco permit

The Bulgarian environment ministry has issued an integrated pollution prevention and control permit to the Pleven district heating utility after the company brought on stream last year a gas-fired turbine. The document certifies that the company is able to meet its greenhouse emissions reduction target. The utility invested some 15 mln euro in the new facility which enabled a cut in heating prices to 63.46 levs/MWh with taxes. Despite the lower heating tariff, the utility said it is still owed 12 mln levs...

Spanish GreenFuel Corporation would decide within two months whether to build a bio-fuel plant in the region of Pleven , northern Bulgaria , expert.bg reported on March 12. The decision will be discussed at the company`s shareholders meeting in May 2008, Greenfuel`s technical director Antonio Jose Huertas Moreno said, as quoted by expert.bg. Moreno and Pleven regional governor Tsvetko Tsvetkov arranged a working meeting to discuss the future investment`s parameters and the production process itself....

General Consul of Russia in Rousse and Belene Municipality discuss over the opportunities of providing home for 2,000 Russian workers and specialists, which will be employed about the construction of NPP ‘Belene`, money.bg announced. 4,000 people will be needed for the building of the plant, as the half of them will be assured from Russia, because Bulgaria does not have enough specialists for construction of such facilities, says Genadiy Rostovski, chairman of Russian Chambers of Trade and Industry`s agency for the Balkans...



Business: Spain`s Cyes to invest in Pleven area water sector

Spanish construction company Cyes will invest in wastewater treatment plants and the replacement of water supply infrastructure in the Pleven area, it emerged after a meeting between company executives and regional governor Tsvetko Tsvetkov. One of the priorities for the Spanish investor is participation in the 12 mln euro wastewater treatment plant that will service the Pleven municipality. Cyes will also consider the opportunities to join other water sector public-private partnerships in the area.

Milk producers from the regions of Ruse and Targovishte will unite their protests in the town of Byala, while the farmers from the regions of Pleven and Lovech will join their protests in the village of Obnova, Adrian Tsakovski with the National Association of Milk Producers in Bulgaria told Focus News Agency.
After the latest protests outside the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Supply on January 16th, Minister Nihat Kabil announced that BGN 21 million had been allotted to assist farmers under the EU’s de minimis regulation. According to Tsakovski the procedure of applying for funding would take too much time.
“Next week most probably we will walk to Sofia together with our animals,” he said.
