Bulgaria requested 1.7 billion euro from Russia for NPP Belene

Bulgaria has requested 1.5 or 1.7 billion euro from Russia for the construction of NPP Belene, Mediapool reported. According to the publication, Minister of Economy and Energy Petar Dimitrov is in Moscow conducting the negotiations.

The request has been filed because France`s BNP Paribas, selected by Bulgaria`s national electric company to finance the project, will not be able to provide the necessary funds by the end of the year.

The French group said they would resume the financing of such projects at the beginning of 2011 at the earliest. Germany`s RWE, also a participant in the project, is currently unable to finance the construction of Bulgaria`s second nuclear power plant as well.
