| Environment and Water Minister Djevdet Chakurov attended on Tuesday the ground-breaking ceremonies for the construction of waste water treatment plants in Lovech and Sevlievo (both in Northern Bulgaria). The Lovech plant is worth 9.443 million euro and the Sevlievo plant 13,987,623 euro. Seventy five per cent of the funds have been provided under the ISPA programme, while the remaining 25 per cent have been supplied by the Bulgarian Government, Chakurov said. | ABB, the global engineering company, said it will start the construction of a $20 mln plant for low-voltage products in the Bulgarian city of Rakovski. The plant, the group`s third in Bulgaria, should be operational in `09. The plant site will have an area of 2.0 ha. The project will create around 500 jobs. ABB has production operations in local towns Petrich and Sevlievo. |

| The 112 emergency hotline will be launched in Bulgaria at long last. As of July 3, the line will receive emergency calls from the citizens in 10 districts. At the same time two call centers will start functioning in the capital and in Russe, which will cover Greater Sofia, Pernik, Kyustendil, Blagoevgrad, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Silistra and Razgrad. Till the end of the year the free line should be available for the rest of the towns in Bulgaria, Minister of State Policy for Disasters and Accidents informed yesterday. Meanwhile in the towns of Shumen and Sliven a temporary information center already operates. It receives calls about emergency situations and dispatches them to Civil Protection agency. To make a call people have to dial the respective area code and then 112. |

| Environment Minister Djevdet Chakurov opened the new refuse depot in the Black Sea town of Sozopol and is expected to attend the groundbreaking of a new water treatment station in second biggest Black Sea city of Bourgas on June 10. Sozopol`s refuse depot was built using funds allocated under the European Unions preaccession aide programme Ispa and is part of a project approved in 2000. The project also includes the construction of new landfills in Silistra, Montana, Sevlievo and Rousse, and a station in Kiten Black Sea resort, the Ministry of Environment and Water Affairs MOEW said in a media statement. |

| Ventsi, the authorised Toyota distributor for the Gabrovo and Veliko Tarnovo regions, said it will invest 2.2 mln euro in a new auto service center in Gabrovo. The 3,100 sq m complex, located in the northern industrial zone of the city, will house offices, warehouse, service shop and a retail outlet for auto accessories. | Swiss concern ABB gave the go-ahead to a project to build a $20 million (12.92 million euro) plant near Bulgaria’s second largest city Plovdiv , the concern said in a May 15 statement. The plant will become an internal supplier for ABB, which will manufacture automated components in other factories of the concern. The plant will spread on 35 000 sq m. | A 16-year-old girl from Gabrovo city got killed during a heavy car crash two hours ago on the road Gabrovo – Sevlievo, newsman from Radio ‘FOCUS’- Veliko Tarnovo reported. The accident happened at the entrance to Popovtsi village situated between the two cities. The driver of the car is 21-year-old boy, also in danger for his life. The Police reported that the two youth were driving with extremely fast speed and after a dangerous road bend the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a wall. |

| Sevlievo-based steel cable maker Emka will seek shareholder approval at a May 29 general meeting to source a capital raise from company funds. The company wants to perform a hike from 5.376 mln to 10.753 mln levs, tapping 2.6 mln levs in `07 profits. In `06, Emka increased capital from 448,000 to 1.792 mln and last year took it to current level. The company said it has slated 2 mln euro for the purchase of new equipment this year with an eye on a 50% increase in output capacity in `09. |
