The Gabrovo -Sokolski monastery is situated high among the northern slopes of Stara Planina mountain, 15km to the southeast of Gabrovo . It was established in 1833 by archimandrite Joseph. He cam here from the Troyan monastery together with the priest-monk Agapius. Next to the entrance of the nearby caveSokolova Peshtera (Falcon’s Cave), they built a small wooden church. An international ethnographic conference entitled "The Folklore Crafts - Past, Present, and Future" started Thursday Bulgaria`s open architectural museum Etara, located 8 km to the south of the city of Gabrovo in central Bulgaria.
