The preparations for the construction of an airport near Kazanlak city (central Bulgaria) has started, Stefan Damyanov, mayor of the Kazanlak municipality informed. According to his words the airport will be legitimated by the international flights requirements.

The deadline for participation in the concession procedure for Ruse airport has been extended, bids can be submitted by 7 May. The tender documents can be received up to 30 days after the publication of the call for tender. The airport in Shtraklevo village includes a concession territory of 1,818,715 sq. m with a few buildings, facilities, equipment, relevant infrastructure. The future concession holder will have to carry out a partial rehabilitation, reconstruction and repair as a part of the annex to the main contract.

The construction of the new Lyulin Highway to belt Sofia city is likely to be completed earlier than it was planned, Bulgaria`s Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev said during a tour along the facility on Sunday. The Open Skies Agreement between the European Union and USA which came into force on March 30 has brought Bulgarian air carriers face-to-face with bankruptcies, the chairman of the Bulgarian Airlines Association Svetoslav Stanoulov asserts. Under this agreement, Bulgaria has to open its market to USA air carriers entirely and unconditionally. However, the American market will remain inaccessible to Bulgarian airlines because of the negative report of the US aircraft security agency (Federal Aviation Administration - FAA) which classifies Bulgaria as unsafe as far as aircraft security is concerned.
