Alitalia have cancelled flights between Rome and Sofia due to incoming strike, the airline announced Wednesday. The company cancels a total of 40 flights from and to Amsterdam, Belgrade, Bucharest, Kiev, Lisbon, Madrid, Milan, Nice, Paris, Sofia and Verona, which were to be serviced between 12am and 4pm Central European Summer Time, the company said in a statement published on its website. Plovdiv Mayor Slavcho Atanasov and his Istanbul counterpart Kadir Topbas are to hold talks on Friday over starting charter flights between the two cities. Bulgarian and Turkish businessmen show great interest in the possibility to fly between the cities and this will be the main topic during the meeting with Mr Topbas, the Plovdiv mayor said. A charter service between Plovdiv and Istanbul could start in a year, the executive director of the Plovdiv Airport, Yanko Yankov, commented.
